What is food? Food is any material consumed to give nutrition to an organism. Food is generally of animal, plant or fungi origin, and normally contains vital nutrients, including protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, or other minerals.
Plants are the primary food sources of protein, with animal products making up the remainder. Plants contain carbohydrates, which are converted into starch, the main source of energy for all animals; fats are used as sources of energy for some animals; and vitamins are used by the body to build and repair cells. Animal foods, on the other hand, contain little in the way of nutrients. The difference is that plant foods are high in calories and fat, while animal foods are low in both.

Plants are classified as omnivorous and meat-eating animals, with a few exceptions. Oftentimes, plants are classified as omnivorous, because they do eat both carbohydrates and proteins. Most obligate carnivores are plantsivores. Humans, of course, are Omnivore.
Protein is the most important nutrient, accounting for about 80% of the calories consumed by humans and all of the important nutrients for human growth and development. Therefore, a good diet includes a variety of protein sources, including meat, poultry, eggs, nuts and soy. Amino acids can also be found in plants, which are the basic building blocks of life. Therefore, plant foods typically carry a variety of different amino acids, which can help increase the protein in your diet and improve your overall health.
Carbohydrates provide fuel for the body and are found in the vast majority of plant foods. A good dietary fiber is complex and provides multiple benefits, including reducing risks of heart disease and lowering cholesterol. However, most fruits and vegetables are fairly low in carbohydrates. High-fiber foods like whole grains and legumes are rich in both carbohydrates and protein, but provide more dietary fiber. Therefore, when it comes to creating a healthy diet, a combination of proteins and carbohydrates is usually the best way to go.

Because carbohydrates are a source of energy for your body, it is often stored as fat in the body. For those who are unable to lose weight on a diet alone, adding a little bit of exercise and vitamin-rich food to your daily routine may help you to shed the extra pounds.
